Originally, from New York, Doctor Bivens has been practicing in Lithonia for over 20 years. She received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College and her medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Doctor Bivens became board certified in Family Practice after completing a Family Practice residency at Brookdale Hospital in New York.

As a member of the National Health Services Corps, Doctor Bivens was awarded the Arkansas Certificate of Merit, by then-Governor Bill Clinton, for her medical service provided at College Station, Arkansas. Doctor Bivens is also a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Family Practice, and a member of the medical staff of DeKalb Medical Center.

Dr Bivens is an adjunct professor at Morehouse School of Medicine and is interested in research. KFP has partnered with Morehouse School of Medicine to do research on Diabetes & Hypertension. Last year in response to the murder of Bobby Tillman in Atlanta she formed a non profit corporation , “END BLACK ON BLACK CRIME INC” and plans to do research regarding mental health issues and violence in the black community.

Doctor Bivens (nee Kendrick) has been married to Larry Bivens for 9 years. He has a degree in marketing and has been a logistics manager for IBM & UPS, as well as a High School Science teacher. Her daughter Kelechi is currently living and working in California. She says her greatest challenge/accomplishment was being a single mother for 17 years and raising her daughter to become a solid, voting, tax-paying citizen with a real job. In addition to her husband, Doctor Bivens was blessed with two stepsons when she got married. Greg is 16 and runs track. His brother Trent graduated college and is a social worker in North Carolina.

Doctor Bivens loves to read and recently finished “Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention” by the late Manning Marable which she highly recommends. In addition to reading she loves music (Ella Fitzgerald, Bob Marley, Sara Vaughn, Bob Dylan and John Coltrane to name a few) and to travel. Recent adventures include exploring a glacier in Alaska, canoeing on the Gunnison River in Colorado, hiking through the rainforest in Costa Rica and taking a cruise on the Volga River in Russia. When she is not working, reading or traveling, she enjoys painting and drawing.
